Alta Advanced WOR Detailed Information
EMBODYING LOVE AND POWER IN RELATIONSHIPS
ALTA LODGE IS THE LOCATION OF OUR 2023 ADVANCED WEEKEND OF RECOVERY. THIS YEAR’S ADVANCED WOR WILL ADDRESS THE THEME: “EMBODYING LOVE AND POWER IN RELATIONSHIPS.”
THIS ADVANCED WOR IS OPEN TO ANYONE WHO HAS PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED A LEVEL 1 WOR.
If you have a partner, they are also welcome and encouraged – but not required - to join you. If you are single and want to explore and develop your relationship building skills, this weekend is designed to help you equally as well. If there are any questions about this policy, please contact Trisha Massa, Outreach Coordinator.
This Advanced Weekend of Recovery will focus on providing participants with the skills to balance and integrate being both loving and powerful in relationships. Trauma can set up survivors of sexual abuse to be trapped in responding in relationships from a submissive or aggressive stance. Power in relationships generally gets a bad reputation; however, love without power is ineffective, and power without love is manipulative. The skills of embodying both love and power will increase participants’ ability to handle conflicts, be more self-directed, and feel safer to be more open in relationships.
Goals of this Advanced Weekend include:
1) Increasing awareness, understanding, and compassion regarding the impact of abuse on relationships and intimacy;
2) Learning practical skills for connecting with your own inner experience, being assertive during interpersonal conflict, enhancing emotional and sexual intimacy, and working together with others to further your healing; &
3) Providing partners of male survivors with additional support and skills to increase their own self-care and ability to experience intimacy in their relationships.
The 2023 Alta Level Advanced WOR is planned as an in-person event. To support continued safety, the number of participants will be limited to a maximum of 24.

Alta Lodge is located at 8,600 feet (2,700 meters) at the base of the Alta Ski Area in Utah's Wasatch Mountains. The Lodge is part of a rare tradition of country inns where the attentiveness and warmth of family hoteliers is combined with the pleasures of excellent dining and comfortable surroundings.

The atmosphere of the Alta Lodge is relaxed, intimate, and informal, with spectacular mountain views. During August, the wildflowers are usually in the prime of their colors, adding to the beauty of this setting.
Private meeting spaces are available for all Weekend of Recovery sessions. The weekend is designed to provide a mixture of full participant community activities and small group breakout sessions. Large group sessions are conducted in an adjacent building with a full wall of windows that view a 10,000 foot mountain.
Small groups are conducted in comfortable physical spaces in the Lodge. Special attention is given to creating safe environments that allow participation at whatever level is authentic for each participant.
The weekend incorporates mindfulness skills as a tool for managing difficult emotions such as anxiety. The mountain environment provides a wonderful settings for expanded mindfulness and program activities.

The weekend allows ample leisure time for reflection and to enjoy the restorative quality of this mountain ecosystem. Optional time for meditation walks and a low-impact recreational hike are included in the program agenda.
